Pollarded Plane Tree at Pelham

Sad to see such a fine example of a London plane tree having to be pollarded, where the top branches are severely cut back, due to the poor condition it's in. The tree, which stands in Pelham House gardens, on the corner of North End Crescent and Mornington Avenue, seems superficially to be in good condition, but after a survey by H&F it was found the upper branches were in decay and there is a fungus rot in the roots. These problems could lead to a sudden failure of the whole tree, making it a danger to the public, hence the pollarding. The tree will remain standing like this, now a minimal risk, providing an important wildlife habitat for invertebrates and birds.

Lytton Estate Garden Online

London Gardens Online website
The Gardens between Samuel Richardson House and The Grange feature on London Gardens Online. The site covers parks and gardens of historical interest in the capital. There is a good brief history of the location and some recent photos of the garden through the seasons.

50th Anniversary of The Grange Estate!

Taken from the 1963 opening ceremony booklet
This coming 11th May, will be the 50th anniversary of the opening ceremony of The Grange and Samuel Richardson House apartment blocks; the development was known as, The Grange Estate.  They were built to provide sixty new homes, by the then authority of the Metropolitan Borough of Fulham, this was before the creation of the Lytton Estate, which the blocks later became part of.
LETRA would like to hear from residents, who have any other photos or press cuttings of this event. We hope to do a further post, celebrating the 'Golden Anniversary' of the blocks. Please contact us at, lyttonresidents@gmail.com, if you have anything to contribute.

Boris Bikes for Lytton cancelled

The Transport for London proposed site for a bike station on our estate, at North End Crescent, is no longer possible. There are problems with the lands registration details!
Red dots indicate sites of  planned Cycle Hire docking stations
However, TfL has assured LETRA that there will be other bike stations near us. After checking the Cycle Hire map, there are two locations close-by that are under consideration; one on the Cromwell Road, next to the lay-by just behind the Three Kings pub and the other in Marcus Garvey Park.

Kathleen Moore

Kathleen Moore
LETRA has received the sad news that Kathy Moore died on Boxing Day.
Kathy was a stalwart member of our TRA and long-time resident of Samuel Richardson House, being one of the ‘originals,’ who moved in when the building was opened in September 1962.
Kathy served as our Chairperson and was a very active committee member, as such she put a lot of work into making our estate a better place to live.
LETRA sends our condolences to her family and friends. She will be missed by us all.
Funeral Service:
The funeral service will be held at  Putney Vale Cemetery and Crematorium Wandsworth, this Wednesday, 16th January at 1pm.

Transport for London are hoping to place a London Cycle hire station on the Lytton Estate. The proposed site for the cycle docking bay is in front of Samuel Richardson House, North End Crescent.
This is part of the Barclays Cycle Hire programme, which is being rolled out across the borough and could result in the bike station being open by end of the year.
