Police Close North End Crescent

The Police are maintaining a closed cordon across North End Crescent and Edith Rd this evening (7.30pm to 10pm). A policeman on duty said there had been a 'fight in the vicinity, with some minor injuries incurred.' The roads are closed while a search for evidence is carried out, involving a number of officers and police dogs. According to a local shop worker, a gang fight with knives had taken place on the junction, outside Sainsbury's, with up to 15 youths involved.
11pm Update:
A forensic team is working on North End Crescent (in front of the parade of shops), which is the only road still closed. The shops inside the cordon have remained closed throughout the investigation.

Fire destroys flat at The Grange

Fire at The Grange today left a 3rd floor flat destroyed and a young family homeless, nobody was seriously injured, but residents were evacuated from the block and several were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and shock. The owner who had just gone out to the shops, returned home to find she had lost everything.
The blaze broke out just after 2pm, with the fire brigade arriving promptly at the five storey block, but the fire rapidly took hold and gutted the maisonette, nearby homes were also damaged by the smoke and water. Residents found shelter in the TRA hall, until the emergency services allowed them to return home later in the afternoon.
LETRA is extremely grateful for the fast actions of the emergency services, their prompt and brave work saved residents in serious danger and the building from far greater damage.
